Overview
BOLDR Pro is an extension of the ROCK App, built for major construction companies. It focuses on making complex workflows easier and plays a key role in driving revenue.

I led the design and strategy for BOLDR Pro, and we're getting ready to launch it in August 2025.

How we got here

We released ROCK App and it provides new ways for users to import, manage and utilize construction data. By the end of 2024, ROCK App has over 100K+ users and hundred of enterprise customers.

However, the existing design of ROCK App, struggled to scale with increasing enterprise feature requests. Maintaining user experience for both Casual and professional users becomes challenging.

We need to build a strong foundation that will target professional users' needs and scale to evolving business needs.

But great product thinking means questioning assumptions. So before making a decision, we went out and did the work.

Research and Discovery

We conducted extensive interviews and pilot studies with 16 of our enterprise customers and we mapped their real workflows.

Collect Data

Field teams collect measurements data and write them down on paper. PDF is sent to engineer tean.

Validate data

Engineer team type data into a tailored spreadsheet or ERP system and run some validation.

Label Data

Onsite Supervisor need to annotate the data on a printed draw plan for visualization.

Transfer Data

Engineer team takes the spreadsheet and import into CAD, then sent to manufacturer. This could happen several rounds back-and-forth.

Picking up the pieces

Talking to real users gave us clarity: 

Even companies that have made big strides in digital adoption and automated parts of their workflow still face major challenges — the biggest bottleneck is moving data between different software, and there’s strong resistance to switching systems.

This is where ROCK App fell short: it delivered a lot of value through data, but that data still had to be transferred between different apps. And because it served both professional users and casual DIY users, it was impossible to add more advanced features without hurting usability and making the learning curve even steeper

A full workflow usually takes 4-5 steps, each needing a different software or custom solution

Migration to new workflow is hard - the old one's complicated, but it's what everyone knows

And critically:

ROCK App's data-centric, All-users-friendly design couldn't stretch far enough to meet professional workflow needs.
